FREE GOLF FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

The London Development Agency is working in partnership with the Greater London Authority, Sport England, Youth Sport Trust, Pro-Active London Partnerships, London Sports Forum for Disabled People and National Governing Bodies of Sport, to deliver the Play Sport London 2009 Programme across London.

The Mark Janes Golf Academy is offering free golf lessons for women and girls. Each week throughout July, August and September, Chessington Golf Centre will host 2 free 1 hour lessons, click here for dates of events. Play Sport London activities and events are due to kick off 1 July 2009 and will continue throughout the summer until 30 September.

Junior Update - Skillz Skool

Congratulations to Connor Wright for being the first junior to complete every skillz skool challenge. This included a Gold (level 5) for the trick shot challenge and silvers (level 4) in putting and chipping.

Congratulations also to Emma Klugman. Emma, one of the youngest juniors to take the challenges, was the first person to achieve a gold (level 5) for driving.

I am thrilled to announce the arrival of two new members of staff here at MJGA.

Ian Goosey

Ian joined us on the 5th July and has really hit the ground running this past few weeks!! He comes with a wealth of experience from many years as a top class instructor, any new clients wishing to book a lesson with Ian, please call us on 020 83919038. Mark’s Holiday Plans! 21st August to 2nd September

So now we can really build on the good work we started last year and help golfers in the city with making major improvements in their golf games.

Lesson Bookings –

If when ringing the shop at Chessington or the direct academy number, you have any trouble in booking the ideal time you require, then please do not despair! All you need to do is email me direct and then we will do our best to find a suitable time. It’s just a case of trying to book ahead, as normally all the prime evening and weekend slots will fill up first, so booking a week in advance is advisable. Always feel free to leave your name and contact details with the boys in the shop, as then I know who is looking for lessons and can call you back to arrange a suitable time.

The 137th Open Championship 2008

I certainly lived up to my reputation as the worst tipster in the world!! One of my boys missed the cut and the other finished joint nowhere!! Although on the Saturday pm, I did pop into a bookies in Lymington (having had the weekend off) to check the scores and had a fiver each way on Harrington!!!

A fabulous Open I’m sure you will agree, had something for everyone and for once the weather played it’s part, unlike the past few years with all the tranquil sun and light breezes. You might not agree but I love to watch the top players in the world battle and have to work for it, none of this winning at 20 under par target golf! I feel their true class and skills come through when playing in those kind of conditions and on that tough a golf course.

Although I thought the tournament might miss Tiger, I think the game proved bigger than any one player and provided a golfing treat for all!

Tom is moving on –

I am sorry to announce that Tom will be leaving the academy on the 27th July 2008. Tom has been with MJGA for just over three years and has been a real asset to myself and the team. We all wish him every success in whatever he decides to do in the future and thanks again for all the great times and hard work over the past three years! Also best of luck to Tom and Penny, who get married in September, have a fab day and enjoy yourselves in Bali!

Royal Birkdale host the Open this year and although Tiger will be watching it on the TV, I’m sure it will be a thrilling event and certainly an opportunity for someone else to stake their claim for a major!!

Being pretty much the worst tipster in the world, I thought I would give you a couple of names that I believe might be in with a shout! In reality these couple of names are two you can chalk off your list, giving you a better ratio for picking a winner!!

Chessington 9 Hole Course -

If you have not played our course for a while, then you simply must pop up for a round. Mick Payne has done a truly amazing job this spring and it’s in the best condition I’ve seen it in for years.

It is truly a fantastic 9 hole course, with two new feature lakes and extra yardage on many of the holes. A great test for golfers of all abilities, I am convinced it’s now the best 9 hole facility in Surrey. If you haven't played it before or it's been a while since you visited, then please pop along and let us know what you think.

New Staff coming to MJGA!

I am currently in the process of recruiting some new staff. We are so very busy at the moment and in our quest to look after the growing numbers of clients in the manner we require, it means we need some additional staff to achieve these high professional standards. Tom has done a great job with the children’s golf over the past couple of years and is now involved with about 12 local schools, so more help is on it’s way to help keep this great work developing to even greater levels. I will keep you updated on who the new team members are and when they arrive at MJGA!

London Marathon 2008 Update -

Thanks to all your fantastic support I have managed to raise over £2,000 for my two great charities!! So a huge thank you to one and all who supported me, it really did make all the hard work worth while. I look forward to updating you on my next mission towards the end of the year, watch this space!!

Teaching Conference –

What a fantastic couple of days I spent on the 7th and 8th May at the teaching conference at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Speakers include Chuck Cook, Jamil Qureshi, Sir Clive Woodward, Dr Paul Hurrion and Dr Brian Hemmings, covering all aspects of the game from bio mechanics to psychology. We gathered some amazing info from each and every speaker, all fascinating in there own way.

Dr Paul Hurrion gave us valuable info on bio-mechanics and the work he does with Padraig Harrington on his putting and long game. Balance is obviously key in the work Paul does and he showed us some of the cutting edge drills he uses with his players.

Being a huge rugby nut, Sir Clive Woodward was always going to be of particular interest and he did not disappoint. You can see why he helped our boys win the world cup, he really is able to think outside the box and is always up for trying something new and exciting to help his team get that 1% edge over the opposition. He is actually working with a lady professional golfer now and has been for about a year. He’s basically got “Team Woodward” working with her, covering every single aspect of the hear game and health etc, so it will be very interesting to see how this pans out over the coming years, they certainly have high hopes for her. Clive talks in terms of a talented sports person is the very basic requirement, but you will win nothing with that alone. It’s all about working with that talent and then turning them into someone who is a Peak Performer, an athlete who can perform to his/her peak under the most intense pressure, otherwise all the talent in the world means nothing!

Whilst Chris Jenkins gave a fabulous insight into the work he has done in taking Oliver Fisher from a 9 year old boy all the way through to a European Tour Player at the age of just 18!

London Marathon 2008 Update -

Well I survived and lived to fight another day! Great day, sadly two minutes slower than 7 year ago, but just sneaked under the 4 hour mark, at 3.59!! Still very proud to have run the marathon again and just had a fabulous day with the other 34,000 mad runners! A massive thank you to all of you who sponsored me, currently between the two charities we have raised in the region of £2,000, a fantastic effort so thank you so very much. Bring on the next one!!

Now just four weeks to go before the little jog around London!! I did my second three hour training run yesterday (16th March) so really pleased to have done that, helps build the confidence! Could have done without all the rain and the idiot in the Chelsea Tractor drowning me within the first ten minutes, but that's life!! Marathon Man!!

Yes believe it or not I'm running the London Marathon again! So anyone who spots an oversize runner on the streets, try not to knock me over, you might damage your car!

It's 6 years since I ran my last marathon, so although older, I'm just as enthusiastic as ever, training hard and intent on beating my previous best time of 3.57!

I am raising money for two charities this year, Frances Austen Memorial Trust (a local children’s charity close to my home in Kent) and Leukaemia Research. I have sponsor forms at the golf club and a Just Giving website for the Leukaemia charity, so supporting these great charities could not be easier!

Please dig deep my friends and thanks for taking the time to read this news update and supporting this worthy causes.

I have recently invested in what has to be the world’s best training system “Explanar”. If you have never had a go on Explanar, then please get in touch ASAP and if you have, you will already be on your way up here!! It’s a truly fantastic way of feeling the correct movement in the golf swing, as the guys at Explanar say “turning swing thoughts into swing feelings”. Lessons are now available with “Explanar” and I am also offering use of the Explanar during your practice sessions, by joining a unique membership scheme, please give me a call for more information.

Function Rooms For Hire

I am pleased to announce that due to all the changes we have made here at the centre, we can now cater for any function that you might be considering in the future. We have been recently hosting wedding receptions, Golden Wedding Anniversary’s, Christening Parties and 21st Birthdays, to name a few. With so much going on here at the Academy and indeed the golf centre in general, I thought a newsletter keeping you updated on our progress would be appreciated.

I am pleased to announce that the refurbishment work here at the golf centre has now been completed and the driving range is fully operational. If you have not been at the centre during the work period, then I can guarantee you are in for quite a shock when you visit us. The range is now slightly longer than before and has been completely levelled out, with new target greens, mats, power tees, range balls, bay dividers and netting all the way round the range. It will obviously be a little on the brown side for a few weeks, but that’s just cosmetics, the layout is just fab! Quite simply the best range in Surrey, don’t take my word for it come and visit for yourself!!

With so much going on here at the Academy and indeed the golf centre in general, I thought a newsletter keeping you updated on our progress would be appreciated.

Both car parks have been levelled and new tarmac laid, a complete refurb through the clubhouse, including new toilets, kitchens, conservatory, patio area and conference rooms. Although the two new greens on the course are ot open, they will be magnificent when they are!

A massive thank you must go to all my loyal clients who have continued to support the academy during this
re-development period, the diary has remained fully booked and for that I truly thank you.

I have recently invested in what has to be the world’s best training system “Explanar”. If you have never had a go on Explanar, then please get in touch ASAP and if you have, you will already be on your way up here!! It’s a truly fantastic way of feeling the correct movement in the golf swing, as the guys at Explanar say “turning swing thoughts into feelings”. Lessons are now available with “Explanar” and I am also offering use of the Explanar during your practice sessions, by joining a unique membership scheme, please give me a call for more information.

With regard to lesson fees, the new half-hour rate will be £23, with the fully inclusive hour lesson being £48, which includes a CD of your swing analysis to take away with you. Discount for paying in advance for 6 lessons will now be 10%, £124 for the 6 half-hour lessons. Tandem lessons will be £174 per couple. Most professionals using the “V1” computer/video teaching system and Explanar are charging for each element. So it would be X pounds for the lesson, plus £5 if you want to use Explanar and £5 for the “V1” teaching system!! I want to keep it as simple as possible, not a shopping list of prices! At the end of the day the reason why I invested heavily into all this teaching equipment is to help you guys in the best way I know how, so it will be at your disposal at no extra cost, all-inclusive in the lesson fee!!

Chessington Golf Centre Refurbishment

Just to keep you updated on the work being carried out, the reduction in length and width to the range is only temporary and our aim is to keep the disruption to a minimum during this period. All the bays have been completely refurbished now, new bay dividers, power tees, carpeting etc. The clubhouse is being altered as we speak; the kitchen and bar are now completed, finishing the new toilets in the next few days and then the conservatory and top car park by the end of the month. We hope the main work on the driving range/course should be finished by mid April, and then back to normal and a long summer to look forward to!! Lessons are available as per our usual schedule, so please give us a call on the normal numbers.

Tower 42 Project

All systems go for the opening of the academy at Tower 42 on a full time basis, a slight delay due to some legal stuff but should be ready to open in the not too distant future. I won’t be up in town full time myself, just Mondays and Fridays we have new staff helping man this project as well as our current business at Chessington.
I will keep you updated as we get closer to the opening
date.

Beginner Groups

Our next few start dates for the groups are as follows:
Sunday 25th March 12noon – 1.00pm, Saturday 14th April 1.00pm – 2.00pm (nearly full), Wednesday 25th April 7.00pm – 8.00pm, Sunday 13th May 12noon – 1.00pm and Wednesday 16th May 8.00pm – 9.00pm.

New Staff at MJGA

I am pleased to announce the first new recruit of 2007 at MJGA. Dong Lee has joined the team from the Central London Golf Centre and will be in charge of looking after the large number of Korean clients we have at the centre. Dong will also be a massive asset in developing junior coaching at the centre as he brings a wealth of experience in this field. He is so enthusiastic about helping his students to improve and combined with a relaxed and simple approach, he is sure to be a big hit at the academy.
